Commsworld are seeking an experienced and highly skilled 3rd Line Firewall Expert with a deep understanding of Fortinet firewalls to join our security operations team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Fortinet security solutions, including FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager, and will play a critical role in ensuring the security and performance of our network infrastructure.

As a 3rd Line Firewall Expert, you will be responsible for providing advanced troubleshooting, configuration, and optimization of Fortinet firewall environments. You will work closely with other teams to resolve complex firewall-related issues, implement security policies, and ensure best practices for securing network traffic. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong technical background and a passion for network security.

• Provide expert-level support for Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate), ensuring optimal performance and security.
• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot FortiGate firewalls, including high availability (HA) and complex network setups.
• Administer and optimize FortiManager for centralized management of FortiGate devices, including policy configuration, device provisioning, and firmware upgrades.
• Use FortiAnalyzer to monitor, analyse, and generate reports on firewall logs, identifying trends, threats, and performance issues.
• Resolve complex firewall incidents and requests escalated from 1st and 2nd line teams in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain firewall policies, access control lists (ACLs), and VPN configurations to ensure secure network connectivity.
• Collaborate with network engineers and other IT teams to design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructures.
• Perform vulnerability assessments and recommend improvements to enhance firewall security posture.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for firewall configurations, changes, and incidents.
• Assist in the implementation of firewall-related projects, including new installations, migrations, and upgrades.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to junior team members and colleagues.
• Stay up to date with the latest developments in Fortinet technologies and network security best practices.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Proven experience working with Fortinet FortiGate firewalls in an enterprise and service provider environment.
• Strong knowledge of FortiManager for centralized firewall management and FortiAnalyzer for logging and analysis.
• Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting complex firewall rules, VPNs (IPsec, SSL), and NAT policies.
• Hands-on experience with advanced features such as intrusion prevention systems (IPS), application control, web filtering, and antivirus.
• In-depth understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, etc.) and security standards.
• Experience in firewall performance tuning, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with network monitoring tools and systems.
• Knowledge of other security technologies such as IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection is a plus.

Desirable Certifications:

• Fortinet NSE 4 or higher.
• Cisco/Juniper certification (CCNA/JNCIA or relevant network/routing experience)
